Geographic distribution

From Southern Canada to Northern South America. Today, raccoons can also be found in Northern Europe (probably animals that escaped from farms).

Raccoons are trapped.

Use

Raccoon fur is used for fur linings and trimmings for hoods, gloves, shoes, and handbags. It takes the fur of 30 - 40 raccoons to make a fur coat.

Raccoons may be hunted in Switzerland. It is, however, prohibited to use traps or wire slings.
